Not sure where to start today, hand on heart i can say that i have been very good at sticking religiously to the diet. I have allowed myself one or two "cheats" a week but need to make sure that this doesn't turn into a more frequent occurrence. Although in the interest of honesty Saturday was a very very very very bad day. My hangover (non beer or cocktail induced) meant that i finally caved in and had a big mac, yes folks you read right a big mac. I have been craving one for about three weeks. I felt bad about myself as it was so i though F*** it how much worse can it get. Fact, i felt even shitter having eaten it. I also may have had some ice cream with extra toppings, say what?
Overall though the results so far speak for themselves, and i am really happy the diet. Just need to make sure i don't get too cocky and start slipping, after all no-one wants to go backwards. In case anyone is interested, most days breakfast consists of a protein shake or scrambled eggs with veggies and bacon. Lunch either a small salad and soup or a decent size salad. Dinner, a pork chop or chicken breast, with an assortment of veggies, typically, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, kale, parsnips, carrots, broccilini, leeks, onions, mushrooms, brussel sprouts. Obviously not all at one meal. To snack on, raw nuts (people get your mind out of the gutter) kale chips (best find ever thanks Nat although at $7 a pop i think i have found a new expensive vice, and believe me i have many!) and peppered beef jerky!
Really interested to see how will and Nat get on with the chef by request initiative, i may be tempted to try it myself!.
On a side note, just one grumbe to mention. Due to the success of this diet and regular training at the brickhouse, it is costing me a fortune to have all of my jeans/shorts and shirts taken in at the tailor... I hope you happy LLF!!!!!
So i have been very flattered that people have been noticing the physical transformation over the last few weeks and all the thanks goes to a) cross fit and b) the paleo diet. Admittedly i have been getting a little cocky with my diet and may not have been as disciplined recently but i plan to rectify that. On the whole i have been honest and remained true to the paleo diet. An issue i still have is portion control, jeez i am sounding like fat man still, but i just can't help myself, for instance a bag of peppered beef jerky to me, it was a baby ruth is to chunk from the goonies.. i think you get the message. I have been eating out a lot recently so have had to make some wise choices, will be thankful when i can have some consistency in my diet again.
Finally, it has been brought to my attention that Mai Tai's are not really a great choice when on the paelo diet.. i personally think the diet is misguided, but hey what do i know I am just a fat man in a skinny body……
Why do they have to make all of their food so bloody tasty....? so i clearly had a weak moment while out to lunch on sarurday and had a croque monsieur... in case you were wandering yes it was delicious!however, overall i have to say i am sticking to the diet although i may be a little "loose" with some of the diet rules, but not too loose to worry.. Question and statement, dried apple pieces are bloody tasty, but are they allowed on my Paleo Diet?
Ok so i have come to realise that i am only cheating myself IF i don't have one bad meal a week. When i mean bad, i mean maybe a little potato or a wee bit of bread. In the routine now, protein shake for breakfast, salad or veg with a protein for lunch and then steamed/roasted/sautéed veg and protein for dinner..... snacking on nuts but not a lot. still off the fruit, may start introducing in small doses next week. Drinking plenty of water but also a little too much wine and liquor, damn you Mr alcohol!!! snuck in a crafty beer on sat and boy did it taste good, better than i remember. so that is me.... off to whole foods to get some kale chips, kelp noodles and of course veg and meat!
In summary, i feel good, i honestly think i have lost some body fat. i went to a nutrionist last week and my body fat was 22, my aim is to get that to 15. i have noticed that the beer barrel that i was carrying has shrunk, its more like a party keg or a very generous six pack (i said generous)!
So the weekend kind of sucked.... i find it soo tough to get a solid lunch on a weekend, for the most part i stuck to the diet although i had a tiny bit of cheese and bread on saturday (highly recomend Chez Mama's french onion soup) and i may or may not have had a little ice cream on saturday night....
oh and bloody sick of eggs.... egggggsss schmeeggssss
my aim this week is to vary my meal plans.. think i am going to make some stews and then some meatballs (not turkey) with tomato sauce..yummy..... have to say that boy do i miss pasta and mashed potato.......
On the drink front, still no beer, saturday night i almost failed, i just really wanted an ice cold crisp beer. However, i just thought about the dissapointed look natalie would have and so opened a bottle of wine instead...
Wow this week has been a REAL mental challenge... don't get me wrong i have stuck to the diet, but its the lack of choices which is starting to get to me, especially for breakfast and lunch. After all there are only so many ways you can have eggs + veggies in the am.... what i woulnd't give for a lovely poppy seed bagel with cream cheese and bacon....hhmmm so all week essentially i have had eggs for breakfast and then for lunch salad, veg and some sort of protein, dinner, lots of veggies and some protein mostly pork or chicken.... munching on some nuts if i get a little peckish
Thoughts - 1) I need to add some fish to my diet. 2) i think leeks could be my new favourite veg, they are so versatile. 3) falling in love all over again with turnips, swede (Rutabaga for the non anglo people out there) and parsnips....
Alcohol update 6 beers in 6 weeks (i am super impressed with this)...... although i think i may be robbing peter to pay paul with my consumption of wine though....
Overall i am feeling the difference and am noticing some physical differences also... i guess that is the whole point!!!! just another 10 weeks to go... so i am 17% deep in my journey!
P.S Sarah V you have some cookies from london and you didn't think to share.... please tell me they were not chocolate hobnobs.. if they were and you didn't share, well lets just say i have killed men for less.
In short most days i have been eating scambled eggs with veggies for breakfast (some times a little bacon), at lunch a salad with a baked turkey breast. Dinner consists of steamed or sauted veg with a grilled turkley breast. Some meals i will add some raw cashews and almonds. (I will mix up the potein for sure next week)
So far so good i have noticed that i am little more hungry than usual, but on the whole i feel good. Portion control is still an issue... i can't figure out if i should be eating a whole or half of a turkey breast at lunch and dinner..... feedback wil be graetfully recieved on this point.
Its all about preperation.... if the food is in the fridge i will eat healthy, its just when the fridge is empty that i start to struggle, however, so far i have managed to avoid such instances.
Booze wise off the beer again it will be a little of 4 weeks now had i not fallen off of the wagon last weekend and consumed 4 beers... still partial to a glass or two of wine though!
still so far i am pretty proud off myself for resisting all of the food that i would really like to eat, especially the the local deli's cuban sandwich.....
Will keep a more detailed log next week.
Question for those following a "stricter" diet. How do you cope when you go out for dinner?
