Back from vacation in Texas! I ate lots of amazing BBQ, drank a chocolate malt almost every day (turns out several ice cream shops are vying for "best in Amarillo" so I had to try them all!), and I even had Chik-Fil-A for the first time -- so I most certainly was NOT eating clean. My sleep has been fracked ever since, and it's time to get back in the game (the "I'm not tired all day game"). Sleep quality is the first thing I see change when I eat clean or not.

I'm aiming for a 80/20 Paleo split. I'm keeping some dairy, rice, and coffee as my main deviations from Paleo. Main goal for the next week is to get my sleep back in check with clean nutrition.

Here's today's eats:

Breakfast 9am -- Fage Nonfat Yogurt (5oz) w honey
Lunch 12pm -- Salad: 4c Mixed lettuces, 4 oz chicken breast, 1 yellow pepper, dressing
Coffee 1pm -- w dash half½
Snack 3pm -- Pear-apple (apple-pear? asian pear? asian apple? whatever it's called)
Snack 6pm -- Post workout Protein shake
Dinner 9pm -- Soup (beef broth, mushrooms, onions caramelized in coconut oil), banana + almond butter

supps: 1100mg fish oil, multivit

Oh and I'd like to add -- a month or two ago, Lindsay and I went to visit my brother and his fiance in LA. They saw us eating Paleo and were interested, and several of their other friends eat Paleo, so they decided to try it! 30 days strict, with Robb Wolf's book. In less than 3 weeks he has lost 7 lbs, she's lost over 10 lbs, and she no longer has pain in her knees and back, and she can breathe through her nose for the first time in recent memory. I'm so glad it's working so well for them!! Clean nutrition FTW.

11am: cold chicken breast with hot sauce
noon: iced coffee <- gotta get a lot of work done today, I am glad that from this challenge i have been able to not *need* coffee but instead I can use it to boost my mental performance when needed!
1pm: nectarine with chopped nuts (walnuts, macs), cacao nibs, and coconut flakes
5pm: larabar
8pm: 1/4 c nuts and raisins
10pm: paleo chicken tikka masala, salad, plus paleo dessert made of mashed up macadamia, hazelnuts, cacao nibs, tiny amount of honey

10am: banana and almond butter
noon: leftovers salad! lettuce topped with: 4 meatballs, onions + mushrooms, half an avacado, dressing
3pm: orange
6pm: Chocolate Almond smoothie at Sidewalk Juice -- I made this nearly Paleo by getting it without the fro-yo, but the chocolate comes from nutella, which is totally not paleo -- so this is my lil almost-paleo almost-milkshake treat smile
9pm: 2 grass-fed (marin sun farms) burger patties with caramelized onions, plus a small salad at Spork. SO GOOD!
11pm: dates with cashew butter and cacao nibs, part of a larabar, some cold chicken breast with hot sauce … so snacky!

I'm fallin off the wagon a bit as the paleo challenge comes to an end. I'm still staying technically paleo, but skating too close to cheating on the spirit of it…I mean honestly, that smoothie today was almost a milkshake, and that is not good for me! But as a once-a-month treat, I guess I can feel ok about it.
