"NorCal Sectional Day 1
Against a 6-minute running clock:
Max rep overhead squats (115lbs)
Score is total number of overhead squats = 21
Max rounds plus reps in 10 minutes of:
7 Thrusters (115lbs)
12 Kettlebell Swings (53lbs)
4 rounds + 3 reps
I did these as prescribed with 4 hours rest in between. Not especially happy with either of the scores.
Workout A was the first running I've done in recent memory, so it's not surprising that I did not even have the bar overhead until just before the 4 minute mark of the WOD! Still, I would have hoped to have managed more than 21 OHS in 2 minutes.
Couple notes for LF competitors to consider about this WOD:
1. I need a lot of reps at OHS before I am any good at them. So I did considerable warm up working up from an empty bar all the way up to 135. Right before I started the clock, I did a few warm up reps at 135. I think that was a big help, because the next time I picked up the bar it felt much lighter (because it was). I do not know if that will be practical to do at the event, but something to consider. Maybe you could even bring a couple iron 10lb plates (they're pretty small) to just hang off your preset bar for a couple quick warm reps before the WOD starts.
2. I did my 21 reps in 3 sets (14, 6, 1) dropping the bar in between. In retrospect, I almost certainly would have been able to manage a few more reps had I rested the bar on my shoulders rather than dropping it all the way to the ground.
I'm sure you guys have already strategized everything. Just throwing those tips out there for anyone who feels like listening.
Workout B almost killed me. I almost quit after 2 rounds. Before I started, I was pretty sure I would be able to manage at least 5 rounds. Not even close. I lost all steam during the third round.
No tips for this workout. Just try not to die.
I'll be interested to see where I would have placed in the sectional competition. I do not expect it to be very high.
