4/10 saturday
Weigh-in day!!!
After 12 weeks of Paleo challenge, dropped from 206 to 183. Lost some lean muscle mass which is okay with me since I have had a great overall fat weight loss of about 18lbs. I was surprised at the loss of lean mass because I had been working out more with CF type exercises and have not been so cardio focused.
I don't know if I am going to keep this nutrition log so much now since the challenge is over, but for now:
bk: some smoked salmon and 1/2 avocado with a little salsa
Lunch: Fresh Choice in Daly City: I had a salad bar and 2-cups of soup (with chicken and hominy!) and a chicken breast (with a little blue cheese sprinkled) and some meat marinara sauce over some veggies
Snack (after workout): some more smoked salmon and the other 1/2 avocado/salsa
Dinner: Not very hungry after my "snack": Smoothie with strawberries, banana, prot powder, flax
Another snack: a few oz of nuts and seeds
Another later snack: a bowl of low-fat granola with FF milk! Fuck Paleo

sun 4/4:
bk: baghdad cafe with a friend: Knowing I was going to an easter brunch later, I ordered some fruit and a chicken breast.
Easter brunch: nibbled on a bunch of strawberries and grapes and had a couple of bite-sized corn meal muffins and some single bites of a grain english muffin with cream cheese. It was 4 hours until dinner was served and everyone was swilling champagne but me.
Finally: a heap of ham and turkey and some more strawberries and some curried deviled eggs (probably 6 halfs) and some cucumber salad. A bite of some pasta salad with chicken.
Not bad overall.
Dinner: I wasn't hungry later but finally made a protein smoothie and had some jerkey. Then went shopping at safeway and loaded up on vegetables for the week. back at home after 9:30! I noticed my week last week lapsing into protein and fruit as I began to run low. I kind of forgot all about the frozen TJ stuff I had and could have made.

sat 4/3
bk/Lunch: I decided to hit my bike after a long hiatus and join a 50 mile AIDS training bike ride on the fly (I was just an interloper). Washed down a protein and flax infused smoothie for breakfast. Took some nuts and dried fruit and a 30g protein bar for lunch. Skipped all the crap I might ordinarily eat on the many places to stop and gorge. Did not feel deprived at all.
Lunch #2 after ride: Leftover fish/tomatoe stew from several days ago.
Dinner at about 8:30: I wandered down to 18th and Castro after walking the dog and went to the mexican place near Fuzio: Great Paleo meal: They made some vegetalbe dish for me of brocolli and zuchinnin and I don't know what else on their grill and then mixed in some chopped chicken and beef. I had a little 2 oz dish of guacamole and some salsa on the side. I tried out some cactus on the side. It was my favorite paleo fast food meal that I have found in the 'hood.
Snacks: fruit and nuts and some jerky. A table spon of almond/flax butter.

4/2 fri
bk: breakfast smoothie with banaana, strawberries, prot powder and ground flax.
Lunch: Amber Indian - stayed on the paleo course with lots of chix/fish. Spinich was a little suspect. No Nan bread or rice, etc. some fruit. Went to SCLA afterwards for a short workout.
Dinner: RN74 - I got reservations for my small entourage at 7:45. It pays to know the bartenders at select restaurants. I was trying this place for the first time and had appetizers of mussels with fat pork belly (I nibbled some of the bacon like edges of these slabs of fat!), and a delicious shrimp dish with vegetables. Very good! Dinner was the halibut on vegetables. No starches were served on either of these dishes. Maybe rice/potatoes are falling out of favor or I just gravitated towards this plate.
Snacks: some jerkey and nuts and fruit.

I guess I have been forgetting to post the last couple of days. I have been shopping a lot at Trader Joes and Whole Foods, trying to broaden my choices. Too much trying to find Paleo foods eating out, and not enough making my own stuff. Re-reading that Rob Wolf handout of Chriss's inspired me a bit to hit the specialty grocery.
But, today, Sunday 3/28
Breakfast at Baghdad Cafe with friend: bowl of fruit, two poached eggs in a hot andouille sausage salsa.
Lunch: chicken breat and some home made brocolli cole slaw.
Snacks: some crab meat and coctail sauce and 1/2 avocado and salsa
Dinner: Some "primal pizza" that I made at home from a recipe I found online, with some slight variations. The bottom-line: the crust turned out great! I could use this as a base for lots of dishes:
Ingredients:
Crust:
2 Cups Almond Meal/Flour
2 Eggs
2 Tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 Tsp salt
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
2. Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. This should give you a ball of “dough”. If your dough is too “mushy” (like mine was), continue to add almond flour until you get a good consistency.
3. Make a pizza sheet or baking tray non-stick. This is VERY important if you want your pizza slices to come off in one piece.
4. Press your dough on the sheet nice and even about 1/4 inch in the middle and 1/2 inch at the edges.
5. Put crust in the oven for 15 minutes. It should look slightly golden brown when you take it out.
I then dabbed some olive oil on the crust and broiled it for a minute, trying to get it browner.
Sauce:
Then, for the sauce, I made a garlic, mushroom, bellpepper saute and then added spagheti sauce and some garlic salt and a couple of chopped up chicken breasts. I made it super thick.
And for a non-paleo addition (for my partner!) I added some italian meatballs from the freezer. But I ate some of them too! Finally, I dosed it with some parmesan cheese during the last minute of cooking and hope that I can be forgiven in paleo heaven.
